What can I expect from my first treatment session?

PREPARATION: It is recommended that patients avoid wearing body lotion, creams or oils on days of treatment. Myofascial release can ONLY be performed on dry skin. Using oils or creams means the therapist is sliding on your skin and therefore unable to maintain the pressure that releases and melt restrictions.

CLOTHING: You are encouraged to wear what you feel most comfortable in.

Women: Stretchy shorts and a bra or sports bra. Many women are comfortable being treated in their under garments.

Men: Stretchy, loose shorts or boxers. We recommend no tops or t-shirts since clothing can get in the way of treatment.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE PROCESS:

Initial Evaluation & Treatment: All new Patients are scheduled for an Initial Evaluation & Treatment. The initial visit may last up to 1.5 hours.

  • Evaluation: The first part of this first visit will include reviewing your medical and personal history, performing a posture, gait, movement patterns/restrictions, and/or strength assessment, and going over your goals for therapy.

  • Treatment: During the second half of the session I will initiate Myofascial Treatment.

Once the initial evaluation and treatment are complete, I will be able to create a plan of treatment and guide you on how to schedule future appointments. The frequency and length of treatment sessions will depend on various factors, all the while, taking into consideration your resources and what you can commit to.

I will work together with you to offer recommendations on scheduling, but ultimately you are in full control of the course of your myofascial release physical therapy.
